Hidden

Summer days leave much too fast

As if the sun rays were waving goodbye
At every step my mind could grasp
The memory although never dies

Sometimes ticks of the clock sound furious
Telling me not to live in the past
Jesus knows of the thoughts that make me curious
To keep on pretending that time moves fast

Each day the wonder of remembering
Makes me think twice
Life made me have thoughts which were angering
People aren't always that nice

But my heart knows the sad truth
I have buried it beneath my bed
Summer was like a broken tooth
Just attempting to shut the thoughts off my head

I know now where I stand
Flashbacks are like ghosts that never let your soul go
But even the most perfectly made airplane doesn't always land
I’ll take the next opportunity and go

Reality Destroys Humans

Found poem from William Golding's Lord of the flies (pages 167-170)

In agony a thing was stumbling
Screams but no words
The thing terrified was crying
Its face beaten by words

Superficial hunter rose in desire
A scar constantly over its face and arms
The stars and sky can't kill its fire
No noise but the blood on its arms

The blue-white scar became darkly
Like the tore branches from a tree
A pale face with uncertainly
A trouble boy sounding free

The chant swayed down till it was governable
They were dead men on a hill
Excitement became regulable
Superficial boys stood still

The partly secure society boys ran
Blows from thunder followed
Moving aimlessly at the threat in the sand
The terror stroke them of what they had done

Final English Patient Review: conclusion of my thoughts

Memories are the pieces that make your life what it is. When something tragic occurs it is the memory of the event that makes you sad. In psychology I learned that you can control your life and feelings. At first I thought this wasn't possible but after a while I understood it. I believe that we as human beings have the gift of choosing. For example, when Hana decides to stay in the villa, or when the English patient chooses to start an affair with Katherine. These are all choices that they made themselves, they shaped their own future. Newton states in his third law that every action has an opposite and equal reaction exerted on it. Therefore, all of the events that occurred to them were only responses to their actions. I found this novel to be fascinating, It has taught me about the consequences of the war, about caring and love.

English patient review number 8

After finishing the "The English Patient" By Michael Ondaatje I have concluded that once a person falls in love with someone he or she will love them forever. When one falls in love they investigate the other person, wanting to know them perfectly. Everything in the world is suddenly magical and you learn to adore all their characteristics. This feeling not something that one can easily forget. This is why Almassy cannot forget Katherine. She will live within him for as long as he lives, because after all life is made of memories and the memory of love is the most beautiful.

English Patient review number 7

I have come to the conclusion that love is a very complicated factor of life. When a person falls in love they are first happy and somehow in the end they always suffer. Most of the time people fall in love without really knowing why. For example, Hana is in love with the English patient, who doesn't even know how much she cares for him. He lives in another world and pretends like she does not even exist. Caravaggio tells Hana that loving the English Patient will only bring misery to her. However, like most people in love she does not listen, but she does admit that she feels like she is loving a ghost.

English Patient Review number 6

This book has made me realize the importance of nurses and how much they actually care for their patients. Nurses spent day and night looking after the sick. Sometimes they don't even have time to spend with their families. In addition they are very passionate about what they do, that they do it without complains even if they don't get paid that much money. Nurses like Hana that take care of war soldiers have the hardest job. This is because sometimes they become attached to their patients and then they watch them die. Everyday someone dies, that many of the nurses become "shell shocked" (page 41). I think that we can all learn something from nurses and all the effort they put into their work.

English Patient Review number 5

I have been reading about Caravaggio, and I find him to be quite amusing. He's a man with no thumbs because the Nazis cut them when they caught him stealing. He seems to have an interesting past. He states that in the past he had a wife and that he left her. I wonder why he  left her, he says he still remember everything about her, even the beat of her heart. As the book goes on I wish to learn more about this mysterious character that manage to captivate my attention, much more than the others. He seems to have so much history and that makes him exciting.
